Blue Lotus Extract

Nymphaea caerulea · the sacred lily of the Nile

The flower of the temple carvings, steeped in wine for feasts and rites along the Nile. Fully dried flowers, percolated slowly in strong alcohol, then made whole again with their own calcined salts — a soft, dreamy ally for unhurried evenings.

The Story

The blue water lily opens with the morning sun and closes at dusk, sinking back under the water for the night. For the Egyptians that made it the flower of the sun and of return: it is carved on temple walls, painted at banquets, and its petals were found in Tutankhamun’s tomb. At feasts the flowers were dropped into wine, and the scent alone was part of the rite.

We work with the fully dried flowers, yellow heart and blue petals together. They rest in strong alcohol and are percolated slowly, drop by drop; what is left of the plant is burnt to ash and its salts are returned to the liquid. That is the spagyric way: separated, purified, and joined again, so the flower stays whole.

"Opening with the sun, closing with the dusk — the flower of return."

It is not a strong flower. It softens the edges of an evening: a quiet, dreamy, unhurried mood, for meditation, music, or the hour before sleep.

What she carries
Nuciferine

The flower’s best-known alkaloid. In laboratory work it acts on serotonin and dopamine receptors (it blocks 5-HT2A); no human trial has tested the flower itself.

Aporphine alkaloids

The family nuciferine belongs to. They dissolve in alcohol, which is why we draw the flowers in strong spirit.

Flavonoids

The flower’s own colour and antioxidants, studied in the laboratory like those of most blue and purple flowers.

Its salts

The minerals of the flower, calcined from the marc and returned to the extract: the spagyric step.

How to take it

2 pipettes (about 1.5 ml) under the tongue. It is a gentle flower and works best when there is time, not before a meeting or a drive.

Inside Lucid and Temple Nectar it is one voice among several; here it speaks alone.
