Amanita muscaria

Fly Agaric · Soma · the crimson-capped one

A muscimol-carrying spagyric extract, self-foraged from Swedish forests and slow-dried in the traditional way so the raw ibotenic acid content decarboxylates cleanly. What remains is a selective GABA-A agonist held at a ceremonial micro-drop — sub-perceptual doses associated with rebalanced sleep architecture, quiet cognitive clarity, and a slower nervous system.

The Story

Amanita muscaria fruits at the base of birch and pine across Sweden's autumn forests. She has been used ceremonially across Siberian, Sámi, Baltic and Vedic cultures for millennia — framed variously as a sacred ally, a shamanic threshold, a winter-feast bringer of abundance and clarity. Every one of those traditions worked with the mushroom the same way: slow, patient drying.

The traditional drying step is not superstition. It is a decarboxylation reaction. Fresh caps contain ibotenic acid, a glutamate/NMDA-receptor agonist that is neuroexcitatory and can be neurotoxic in higher concentrations. Warm, unhurried drying converts the majority of that ibotenic acid into muscimol — a selective GABA-A receptor agonist that behaves in a completely different way. The two compounds share a molecular backbone but produce opposite CNS actions.

The spagyric extraction takes the slow-dried caps and processes them through the alchemical trinity — ethanol maceration for the plant's soul, calcined ash return for its mineral body, recombined. The intent is not concentration for potency. It is fidelity to a muscimol-primary preparation, held at a sub-perceptual dose so the ally reaches the nervous system without ever taking the driver's seat.

What she carries
Muscimol · the primary carrier

A selective, high-affinity GABA-A receptor agonist — it binds directly at the orthosteric GABA site (not the allosteric benzodiazepine site that anxiolytics act on). Crosses the blood-brain barrier readily; plasma half-life ~90 minutes; excreted largely unchanged in urine, which is why the Siberian "urine cycling" tradition worked pharmacologically. At sub-perceptual micro-doses muscimol produces a quiet limbic dampening, slower cognitive tempo, and improved sleep architecture; at ceremonial doses it produces muscle relaxation, sensory softening, dream-adjacent altered perception. This is the compound the traditional preparation is intended to deliver.

Effects at sub-perceptual micro-dose

Rebalanced sleep pattern — muscimol's GABA-A action supports slow-wave sleep depth and reduces sleep-onset latency at low doses. Cognitive clarity through calm — a quieter over-reactive nervous system tends to read as focus, not sedation, at this dose range. Sacred neuroalchemy — the mushroom's traditional framing as an ally of self-recognition, self-love, and prosperity is echoed in her precise molecular action: not adding stimulation, subtracting noise. Held in a ceremonial container, not a productivity stack.

Ibotenic acid · the pro-drug (brief)

The precursor. Slow-drying decarboxylates the majority of ibotenic acid into muscimol; a small residual remains in every preparation. This is why source and process matter: fresh, un-dried, or amateur-processed amanita is a different (and unsafe) compound profile. Fungai Art foraging and drying is the process the tradition specifies.

How she's held

Sub-perceptual micro-dose: one drop under the tongue in a quiet moment. Effects settle in over 30–60 minutes as a slower nervous system, softer sensory floor, and (if taken at dusk) deeper sleep architecture that same night. This is the daily use band — a cognitive-microdose ally, not an altered state.

Ceremonial dose: two to three drops in a held container with 4–6 hours of open time after. Onset 30–60 minutes. Effects: body warmth, sensory softening, dream-adjacent inner space, slowed cognition. Never combined with other substances. Never for driving.

Safety · do not skip
  • Never combine with CNS depressants (alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, sleep medications), other GABA-A ligands, or psychoactive medications — additive CNS depression risk.
  • Absolute contraindications: pregnancy, breastfeeding, children and adolescents, seizure disorders, active psychiatric conditions requiring medication.
  • Not a therapy. Fungai Art amanita is offered as a traditional ceremonial preparation, not a medical or psychiatric treatment. If you need therapy or medication, please work with a licensed clinician.
  • Wild, un-dried, or amateur-processed amanita is a poisoning risk. Fatalities documented. This is why we do our own foraging and slow-drying rather than sourcing from anyone else.
  • Start with a single drop the first time. Every body is different.
