A rich mineral exudate harvested from Himalayan rocks; used as a premier adaptogen, physical rejuvenative, and amplifier of other herbs.
Guduchi / Giloy Tinospora cordifolia
Root, stem, and fruit used. One of the three ultimate Amrit (immortal) herbs; a powerful immunomodulator used to clear deep, chronic heat and fevers.
Punarnava Boerhavia diffusa
Root used. Renowned as a systemic rejuvenative and a potent, tissue-renewing diuretic.
Shankhpushpi Evolvulus alsinoides / Convolvulus pluricaulis
Whole plant used. A foundational Medhya Rasayana (brain tonic) used to enhance memory, intellect, and cognitive resilience.

Arjuna Terminalia arjuna
Bark used. Ayurveda’s premier cardiotonic; strengthens the physical heart muscle and addresses emotional grief.
Hadjod Cissus quadrangularis
Stem used. Translates literally to “bone setter”; rich in natural plant sterols to accelerate bone healing and joint recovery.
Shallaki Boswellia serrata
Gum resin used. A deeply grounding resin targeting joint inflammation and mobility by regulating fluid accumulation in the joints.
Rasna Pluchea lanceolata / Alpinia galanga
Leaf/rhizome used. A dominant anti-inflammatory herb specific for clearing systemic nervous system imbalances (Vata pain) affecting joints.
Dashmool Ten-root formulation
A famous traditional Ayurvedic compound formulation consisting of “Ten Roots” designed to deeply ground nervous exhaustion and pacify acute Vata.

Gandira Coleus forskohlii
Root used. Classically utilised for congestive conditions of the heart and lungs; modernly recognised for its forskolin content.
Asana / Vijaysar Pterocarpus marsupium
Heartwood powder used. Historically chosen for regulating blood sugar metabolism and toning local tissues.
Nirgundi Vitex negundo
Leaves used. A warming, pungent herb widely applied topically and internally to resolve acute joint swellings and neuralgic pain.
Ashoka Saraca asoca
Bark used. The primary uterine sedative and tonic in Indian medicine, traditionally used to regularise the female reproductive tract.
Lodhra Symplocos racemosa
Leaves/bark used. An intense astringent herb used to cool excessive internal heat (Pitta) in the blood and reproductive organs.
Nagkesar Mesua ferrea
Seed/flower used. Prized for its heat-clearing, drying, and blood-stanching properties.
Rudraksha Elaeocarpus ganitrus
Seed pods used. Highly revered for calming the central nervous system, stabilising blood pressure, and settling the mind for meditation.

Plants from the rainforest basin and the high Andes — tonics, stimulants, ceremonial allies, and adaptogens with a tradition that long predates colonisation. Several are restricted or context-sensitive (noted inline).

Maca Lepidium meyenii
Andean root (Peru, 4000m+). Hormonal & HPG-axis support, fertility, stamina. Eaten cooked in the highlands; raw maca is heating. Three colour-strains (yellow / red / black) with overlapping but distinct profiles.
Suma Pfaffia paniculata
"Brazilian ginseng." Pfaffic acids, ecdysteroids. Energy, immune resilience, endurance. Used by Amazonian peoples as a general wellness tonic for centuries.
Cat's Claw Uncaria tomentosa
Inner bark of the rainforest liana. Ashaninka medicine. Immunomodulator, anti-inflammatory; oxindole alkaloids. Long traditional history for inflammation and recovery.
Chuchuhuasi Maytenus krukovii
Bark macerated in cane spirit. Amazonian energetic warmer — pain, arthritis, sexual vitality, blood circulation. Bitter, drying, deeply grounding.
Sacred Stimulants · caffeine & clarity
Guayusa Ilex guayusa
Kichwa & Shuar dawn tea. Highest caffeine plant; smooth, jitter-free, paired with L-theobromine. Drunk before vision-fasts to sharpen perception.
Yerba Maté Ilex paraguariensis
Guaraní origin. Caffeine + theobromine + mateine. Social, ceremonial, shared from the gourd. Antioxidant-rich. Traditional energiser.
Coca Leaf Erythroxylum coca
Sacred Andean leaf (Inca, Quechua, Aymara). Altitude adaptation, hunger / fatigue suppression, mild stimulation. Whole-leaf chewing has nothing in common with the isolated alkaloid. Legal status varies — ceremonial / cultural context only.
Cacao Theobroma cacao
"Food of the gods." Mesoamerican (Olmec / Maya / Aztec) origin. Theobromine + PEA + magnesium. Ceremonial doses (30–50g raw) open the heart; everyday doses sharpen focus.

Muira Puama Ptychopetalum olacoides
"Potency wood." Amazonian aphrodisiac & nerve tonic. Free-radical scavenger; supports erectile function and libido in both sexes. Traditionally tinctured in cachaça.
Catuaba Trichilia catigua
Tupi peoples' bark tonic. Mild CNS stimulation, dopaminergic effects, mood lift, aphrodisiac. Often paired with Muira Puama as the "lovers' formula."
Damiana Turnera diffusa
Aztec / Maya aphrodisiac & mild euphoric. Acts on the nervous system; relaxes anxiety, gently opens. Traditional women's tonic; pairs with rose & cacao.

"The vine of souls." Harmala alkaloids — reversible MAOI-A. Used ceremonially across the Amazon for thousands of years. RESTRICTED: never combine with SSRIs, tyramine foods, or other MAOIs. Plant medicine context only.
Chacruna Psychotria viridis
DMT-bearing leaf, traditional ayahuasca admixture with B. caapi. RESTRICTED. Listed for completeness of the materia medica only.
San Pedro Echinopsis pachanoi
Andean cactus (Peru / Ecuador). Mescaline-bearing. 3000+ years of ceremonial use in Chavín & Moche cultures. RESTRICTED. Curanderismo context.
Chilcuague Heliopsis longipes
Mexican "golden root." Spilanthol numbs & tingles. Antimicrobial, salivary, opens vocal expression. Used in Mycelium Trance ceremonies to wake sensory pathways.

Sterile conk of wounded birch. Betulin, betulinic acid, polysaccharides. The silent alchemist of Nordic medicine — immunomodulator, deep antioxidant, slow transformer. Dual-extracted (water + ethanol) to draw both lineages of compound.
Pine Pollen Pinus sylvestris
Golden dust of late spring. Free testosterone (trace), full amino-acid profile, brassinosteroids. The forest's breath made visible. Best collected dawn from male cones, dried fast.
Pine Cones (young, green) Pinus sylvestris
June harvest. Resin-rich, terpene-dense. Anti-inflammatory, expectorant. Traditional Russian / Nordic syrup for lung resilience. Sacred geometry made tangible.
Amanita Muscaria Fly Agaric

Achilles' wound herb. Bitter, diaphoretic, haemostatic. Opens pores in fever; closes wounds. The pioneer of the meadow medicine cabinet.
Elderflower & Berry Sambucus nigra
Tree of the Cailleach. Flowers diaphoretic for cold/flu; berries immunomodulating & antiviral. Cordial-tradition across all of Northern Europe. Cook the berries — raw they're sickening.
Mugwort Artemisia vulgaris
St John's Eve herb. Dream-bringer, women's tonic, digestive bitter. Burnt as smudge across Europe (and as moxa across China). Thujone-containing — use temperately in pregnancy.
Nettle Urtica dioica
The mineral powerhouse. Iron, magnesium, silica, chlorophyll. Spring tonic, blood builder, kidney support. Cooked / dried removes the sting. Robin's first foraging spring crop.
Dandelion Taraxacum officinale
Root (decoction) — liver, gallbladder, digestion. Leaf (cold infusion) — kidney, oedema, potassium-sparing diuretic. The whole plant a teaching: bitter root, sweet flower, milk-sap healer.
Valerian Valeriana officinalis
Cat's-favourite root. GABAergic nervine, sleep anchor. Smells like old socks; works like a quiet hand on the chest. Backbone of Robin's Sleepy Sleepy blend.
Materia medica · the fertile crescent · the Levant
Mesopotamian & Levantine.

The oldest written materia medica in the world. Sumerian clay tablets list these by name 4000 years before Galen. Many travelled the Silk Road into Ayurveda; others stayed local and define the kitchens of Beirut, Aleppo, Isfahan to this day.

Frankincense Boswellia sacra / serrata
Tree-tear from Oman, Yemen, Somalia. Boswellic acids — potent 5-LOX inhibitor, anti-inflammatory for joints, gut, lungs. Burned in Sumerian temples; central to Galenic medicine.
Myrrh Commiphora myrrha
Bitter resin of the Horn of Africa & Arabian peninsula. Antimicrobial, astringent, blood-mover. Used since Egypt for embalming, gum disease, wound care. TCM uses the same resin (Mo Yao).
Galbanum Ferula gummosa
Persian umbellifer resin. Listed in Exodus as a temple incense ingredient. Expectorant, nervine, antispasmodic. Sharp, green, fox-like aroma.
Mastic Pistacia lentiscus
Chios island resin. Antimicrobial against H. pylori, anti-inflammatory for the gut. Chewed in the Levant for breath and digestion since antiquity.

Saffron Crocus sativus
Stigmas of the autumn crocus. Persian origin. Mood-elevating (comparable to SSRIs at 30mg), vision-supportive, womb-tonic. Treasured since the Minoans — weight-for-weight the most valuable spice.
Cumin Cuminum cyminum
Nile-valley origin. Warming carminative, digestive accelerator, mild iron source. The seed in every spice mix from Marrakech to Mumbai.
Black Seed Nigella sativa
"The seed of blessing." Thymoquinone — antimicrobial, immunomodulating, antiallergic. Bronchial, digestive, metabolic. Hadith calls it a cure for everything except death.
Fenugreek Trigonella foenum-graecum
Mesopotamian crop · Galen's "horned hay." Galactagogue, blood-sugar moderator, oestrogenic. Bitter sprouted seeds in Levantine cuisine; powdered seeds for milk supply postpartum.
Sumac Rhus coriaria
Red berry of the Levantine highlands. Tannic, sour, blood-tonic; high in antioxidants. Pre-lemon souring agent in Roman cooking; modernly studied for glucose control.

Pomegranate Skin Punica granatum · dried peel
The boundary the fruit keeps. Punicalagin-rich peel — 10× the polyphenol content of the juice. Gut astringent, broad antimicrobial, the architecture that holds the jewelled seeds safe. Decoction is traditional; tincture preserves the polyphenols. Mesopotamian medicine since Sumer; Ishtar’s fruit.
Pomegranate Seeds Punica granatum · whole arils
Persephone’s six seeds — the contract between light and shadow. Anthocyanins, ellagitannins, punicic acid, urolithin A precursor. Cardiovascular polyphenol powerhouse; mitochondrial autophagy support; Yin nourishment. Whole fresh arils as food medicine; tinctured 40% for concentrated protocols.

Damask Rose Rosa damascena
Persian rose — the heart's plant. Mild sedative, antidepressant, cardioprotective. Rose-water (gulab) traded across the Islamic world. Sufi symbol of divine love.
Hyssop Hyssopus officinalis
Biblical purification herb. Expectorant, antiviral, mildly sedative. In Levantine za'atar; in Solomon's temple cleansing rites.
Anise Pimpinella anisum
Carminative, galactagogue, mild expectorant. Backbone of arak, ouzo, raki. Pliny credits it with fresh breath and easier childbirth.
